Fiji? Keep going until you hit the Mamanuca Islands ...

Adventures in crystal clear waters.

We know our Outsyda nomads want to explore the tiniest, best kept secrets of the world and if you scan the map to the west of Fuji, you’ll see a collection of islands known as the Mamanuca Island group.

With more than 20 islands scattered across these azure waters, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’re in paradise, but for our Outsyda’s among you who equate diving with life, then you don’t want to miss out on a trip here.

Snorkeling and Scuba Diving: Discover the islands' underwater world

The Mamanuca Islands are renowned for their vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life. Whether you’re a seasoned diver or a beginner, you’ll find crystal-clear waters teeming with colorful fish, sea turtles, and even reef sharks. One of the most popular diving spots is the South Sea Island reef, where you can explore shallow coral gardens or take a boat ride to the nearby Manta Ray Reef to swim with graceful manta rays.

If you prefer snorkeling, many resorts in the Mamanucas offer guided snorkeling tours to secret spots, where you can swim alongside schools of tropical fish and observe the thriving coral ecosystems just below the surface. The visibility is incredible, often stretching up to 30 metres or more on a clear day.

Island Hopping and Sandbars: explore Fiji’s untouched islands

If you’re craving a bit of solitude, take a day trip to some of the lesser-known islands in the Mamanucas. The chain of islands offers a perfect opportunity for island hopping. You can take a boat to secluded spots like Monuriki, the island made famous as the filming location for Cast Away starring Tom Hanks. Walk along its serene beaches, swim in the tranquil waters, and marvel at the surrounding beauty.

Hiking: Get deeper into nature

A hike up to the summit of Mount Toba on Navini Island offers panoramic views of the surrounding archipelago, making it one of the best vantage points for photographers and nature lovers. For those who prefer a more laid-back walk, several islands have gentle nature trails where you can explore lush forests, spot tropical birdlife, and enjoy the island’s untouched flora and fauna.

Relax and Recharge: the ultimate escape

When you're not out exploring the islands, the Mamanucas provide the ultimate environment to relax and recharge. Many of the resorts here offer luxury beachfront bungalows, private villas, and overwater bungalows that allow you to unwind in style.

For the ultimate pampering, indulge in a traditional Fijian spa experience, where you can enjoy relaxing massages, rejuvenating body treatments, and oceanfront yoga sessions.

One standout feature of the Mamanucas is the laid-back vibe. Whether you’re lounging by the pool, sipping on a fresh coconut, or watching the sunset from a hammock, the slower pace of island life is contagious.

Be sure to try kokoda, a Fijian ceviche made with marinated raw fish, coconut milk, lime, and fresh herbs. Pair it with palusami, a dish of taro leaves stuffed with coconut milk, and enjoy a refreshing Fijian ginger beer or a cocktail made with local rum as you watch the sun dip below the horizon.

When is best to visit?

The Mamanuca Islands are a year-round destination, but the best time to visit is during Fiji’s dry season, which runs from May to October. During this period, the weather is typically sunny, with mild temperatures and calm seas, making it ideal for outdoor adventures.

How do you get there?

The Mamanuca Islands are located just off the coast of Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu, making them easily accessible from Nadi International Airport via a 30-minute boat ride or seaplane flight.
